VIN DES NEIGES Red - Aged under the snow

BORDEAUX GRAVES RED WINE

LUGEY CASTLE

Vintage : 2018 (13% vol.)
Grape varieties : Blend of Merlot (75%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (25%)

A rather crazy and unique story, in any case, that of this Bordeaux winemaker, Franck LABEYRIE, who likes to age his wine in unusual places!

Indeed, the story began when Franck decided to age his Graves in oyster racks in total immersion in the Arcachon basin: It is the white and red of the cabins.

There, we are far from the campsites and oyster basins!

As its name suggests, this red wine is raised at an altitude of 2400 metres under 6 metres of snow!

It is first flown by helicopter to the top of the Lys cirque in the winter sports resort of Cauterets in the high Pyrenees and then buried under several metres of snow with the help of a snow groomer.

Some people spend their winter in the sun, this Grave Château du LUGEY is quietly waiting for the snow to melt and is recovered at the beginning of the summer after having spent nearly 6 months under 6 metres of snow.

As far as tasting is concerned, many of us say that we are gaining in minerality.

Indeed, the Graves Rouge of Château Lugey is a wine where floral notes are dominant, here we obtain a wine where minerality has also developed.

Food / Wine pairing:

A wine matured under the snow deserves to be associated with a winter dish! It may seem surprising but this Graves Château de Lugey is very good with a Savoyard fondue with porcini mushrooms! And if you prefer a white wine with this kind of dish, you can also try the Vin des neiges Blanc !!!
